League of Legends Swiftplay games are about to get even swift-er.

League of Legends introduced Swiftplay to be a quicker way for players to experience Summoners' Rift. However, Riot seems to think that it's not Swift enough. The LoL S1.25.3 update introduces Sudden Death to Swiftplay, read more about it here.

Sudden Death in Swiftplay

As part of the League of Legends patch S1.25.3 update, Swiftplay is getting Sudden Death. This addresses the game's pacing, improving upon the core idea of Swiftplay.

According to Riot, they don't want players to be in a game longer than 35 minutes. They also intend to bring down the average game time, currently 24:45.

More pacing changes are being pushed because of the feedback that there "is too much to do at all points in time."

Sudden Death explained

The Sudden Death mechanic will be familiar to you if you've played Clash before. For Swiftplay, it will have the following effects:

  • At 25 minutes, Structures lose 35% of its current Armor and Magic Resist every minute. This stacks and applies to all turrets on the map.
  • At 27 minutes, the "3 minutes until Sudden Death!" announcement will occur.
  • At 30 minutes. "Sudden Death has started!" announcement will occur, and all targetable structures lose 3.3% of its max HP every 2 seconds.
  • At 36 minutes, the game will end with the Nexus burning down.
