NIKKE’s plus-size Bready stuns fans with stretch marks

Shift Up has officially unveiled their newest Goddess of Victory: NIKKE character - Bready. With a name that cheekily nods to her baking background, Bready is already turning heads for reasons far beyond her profession.

She stands out as a plus-sized character, a rarity in the game, and even features visible stretch marks across her midriff—a striking detail that has not gone unnoticed by the NIKKE community.

Shift Up initially only shared a single illustration of Bready, but that was enough to spark an instant buzz across social media. Fans were quick to praise the addition of a plus-size NIKKE, especially in a game known for favoring a very specific character aesthetic.

Bready’s design is a notable departure from the norm. While a few characters - like Anis, Quency, Tia, and potentially Elegg - show a bit more body diversity, they remain a small minority among the game’s 149 unlockable characters. That puts fuller-figured NIKKEs at just 2–3% of the roster.

While NIKKE has not gone to the extreme as BrownDust2 has, it does trend towards designing characters to fit a narrow beauty standard, which has limited representation in the past. Bready's design is a refreshing change from that standard.

One of the most talked-about features in Bready’s character design is the inclusion of stretch marks -a subtle yet realistic detail that fans have widely praised. Bready is the first plus-size NIKKE character to display this kind of body realism, making her stand out in the game’s traditionally slim-focused lineup.

These differences have made Bready an instant hit, even before players have been aware of weapon, abilities or release date.

NIKKE's 2.5 Year Anniversary is around the corner, a milestone developer Shift Up is almost definitely going to celebrate. Historically Shift Up has introduced an anniversary NIKKE, which means many players will be hoping to hold onto their Gems until then.

That said, Bready might be too tempting to resist pulling for based on the rabid comments on social media.

Bready's debut could signal a meaningful shift in how Shift Up approaches NIKKE character design moving forward. By embracing more inclusive and realistic body types - without compromising on style, personality, or appeal - Shift Up is opening doors for a broader spectrum of representation in gaming.
