The Brenshow is over: Brennon “Bren” Hook and Josh “Sideshow” Wilkinson not returning to Overwatch League

A working relationship since 2015 brought an entertaining and endearing chemistry to the Overwatch League unlike any other. And now it’s over.

In a pair of shocking tweets released this morning, Overwatch League casters and analysts Brennon "Bren" Hook and Josh "Sideshow" Wilkinson will not be returning for the 2022 season.

The near identical statements come at a time when Activision is undergoing some massive upheaval since July 2021. A lawsuit filed against the company due to allegations of sexism, discrimination, and sexual harrassment caused an uproar. Quarterly reports stating that Overwatch 2 was "delayed indefinitely" didn't help. Finally, Microsoft purchased Activision Blizzard for $68 billion, leaving the status of Overwatch and Overwatch League's futures in doubt.

Bren and Sideshow have been integral parts of the Overwatch League since its beginnings in 2018. Starting off as desk analysts before making their casting debut in the Overwatch World Cup in 2019, they became casters for the 2020 Overwatch League season. A longstanding chemistry between the two showed, breathing more life into what was otherwise a tough season due to the coronavirus.

They are also best known for their interaction with players and fans, with Bren having his 1v1 Widowmaker battles with various Overwatch League pros and Sideshow being known for his struggles to getting out of Platinum, his humor rega and his various work with charities such as with events as Tip of the Hats

Along with this, the hugely popular Plat Chat podcast debuted in 2019, where along with Matt "Mr. X" Morello and Jonathan "Reinforce" Larsson, would discuss Overwatch League events. Their banter, knowledge, and utter love for the game evolved the podcast into something unique. After VALORANT's release, Plat Chat became known for one of the top channels to listen to.

We here at Esports.gg wish them both the best of luck in the future.
