Overwatch 2 rank distribution

According to Blizzard Entertainment, 34.9% of competitive Overwatch 2 players are in platinum rank. This is followed by 31.7% in gold, 14.9% in diamond, and 12.6% in silver. Only 2.4% of players are in bronze, which is less compared to those in master rank at 3.2%. The grandmaster and champion ranks, however, have the least amount of players at 0.03% and less than 0.01%, respectively.

It's important to note that this Overwatch 2 rank distribution graphic doesn't account for rank divisions. In the game, there are five divisions per rank. A player who is in platinum 1, for example, is better than someone in platinum 2 and so on. This also means that the lowest rank in Overwatch is bronze 5.

How does Overwatch 2 matchmaking work?

In terms of how Overwatch 2 calculates the best matchups, the game does its best to bring together 10 players of about the same skill level. If the game can't create the ideal match, then there are ways to balance everything as much as possible.

"One system that helps achieve this is called Role Delta," Blizzard Entertainment explained. "It aims to match the skill levels of individual roles on both sides of the lobby in those cases where we can’t create a match where all of the players are exactly the same MMR."

As an example, if your team's tank has a 1.5 matchmaking rating (MMR), then the Role Delta system tries to find an enemy tank with the same MMR.

"In Competitive mode, we take steps to ensure that the absolute lowest win rate probability a team encounters is 40%," the report added. "That would be an outlier, though; most matches (80%) of Competitive Role Queue have a win rate probability within the 45-55% range."
