Overwatch 2 Season 9 overhaul deemed a ‘breath of fresh air’ by player base

People like OW2 changes? Impossible!

No, it’s not just you. Some people love the Season 9 Overwatch 2 changes and they’re excited to see what comes next. A dramatic overhaul to the game's core systems for the new season included increased projectile sizes, bigger health pools, and a healing debuff from DPS Heroes. If anything, it's a fun surprise to see the Overwatch 2 Season 9 reactions coming across as positive from the peanut gallery for once.

While there remains a noticeably vocal section of the gaming community who despise the changes, it seems Blizzard hasn’t steered all their fans away just yet. Varying opinions have been floating around social media since the February 13 release of Overwatch 2's Season 9. But, it seems that for once, players are welcoming the changes.

Despite some gamer's beliefs of tank troubles in Overwatch 2’s Season 9 overhaul, another portion claims the changes are a “breath of fresh air.” In particular, the changes to DPS seem to have shaken up OW2 in the best way possible for some players.

Issues that previously plagued the OW2 landscape, like Hanzo’s infamous one-shotting, are a thing of the past. Players rejoiced on February 15 social media posts, calling the patch a “needed” change to spice up OW2.

These tank woes seemingly stem from the need to play in cover. This, in turn, forces healers to focus their abilities on their at-risk tank teammates. It also means the biggest player on the squad needs to think more carefully about their decisions. But, players will adjust and change their playstyle in time, according to the community.

Even at the professional level, former pro/analyst Jacob "Jake" Lyon seems to enjoy the shift. OW2 is “more fun” because of these changes, according to Jake. These changes push OW2 into a more team-focused FPS and reward highly-skilled aimers.

As for whether OW2 will continue to change, we’ll have to wait and see. Blizzard may even tweak the tank role further to make it easier on our larger and more protective teammates. It’s been less than a week, so we’ll have to let Overwatch 2’s Season 9 changes sink in a little more.
