Overwatch 2 Hazard lore: Who is Hazard in Overwatch 2?

According to the "Tear It Down" comic, Hazard grew up in a troubled household. His parents argued while trying to keep food on the table, and by the time Hazard was almost four, his mother passed away due to the Omnic Crisis.

Wanting to change his situation and believing that education would open doors for him, Hazard entered military service since that would pay for his university studies. At the time, he believed that the system existed to protect and care for him.

Overwatch 2 Hazard lore and story explained

During his service, an incident aboard an Overwatch jet cost Hazard both his legs and an arm. Despite receiving medications, cybernetics, and monthly check-ups, nothing seemed to help.

"Reporting live from Glasgow, where an unidentified ship shot down an Overwatch jet. The most recent estimates indicate 14 dead and more than 50 injured."

To Hazard, Overwatch didn’t care why the incident happened or how to prevent it from happening again.

Eventually, he heard about a group that did care — the Phreaks. The Phreaks not only provided body modifications that alleviated his pain, but also helped him realize that he would never be alone. He found a family in the Phreaks — something he had never really experienced before.

With the Phreaks, Hazard came to believe that a system treating everyone like a number wasn’t just a system. Rather, it was a prison. And the Phreaks had the power to set everyone free.
