This Raid Day might just become the biggest October event for Pokémon GO.
Mega Rayquaza, one of Pokémon GO’s strongest raid attackers, will once again become available for a Raid Day, coming this Oct. 18.
Known as the Sky High Pokémon, Rayquaza and its Mega form both call the earth’s ozone layer their domain, and it gained reputation as the only Pokémon capable of ending a cataclysmic battle between Kyogre and Groudon.
In the games, Rayquaza lives up to its legendary status, proving just as formidable as the Pokémon lore describes. Whether you’re a new or experienced Pokémon GO player, the Mega Rayquaza Raid Day is a must-join event.

Why attend the Mega Rayquaza Raid Day?
For starters, Mega Rayquaza definitely belongs to the highest tier of all attackers in Pokémon GO. Mega Rayquaza’s offensive toolkit easily outclasses every other Flying-type Pokémon in the game, and it only ranks second to Eternatus among the best Dragon types.
Judging by Mega Rayquaza’s overall Pokémon GO stats, we can argue that the Sky High Pokémon is currently the strongest Legendary you can have in your collection. So, don’t be surprised to see massive crowds of players gathering at popular Pokémon GO hotspots once its Raid Day kicks off on Oct. 18.
Since it’s not the first time for this legendary to appear in raids, we previously made a Mega Rayquaza raid guide in case you want to see its weaknesses and best counters.
Mega Rayquaza 2025 Raid Day in Pokémon GO
The Raid Day for Mega Rayquaza will begin at exactly 2 p.m. on Oct. 18 local time. Gyms will keep on spawning Mega Rayquaza raids until 5 p.m. of the same day.
Event bonuses
- The Remote Raid Pass cap jumps to 20 starting Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. until Oct. 18 at 8 p.m.
- Spin Gym Photo Discs to score up to five extra free Raid Passes, giving you a total of six to use throughout the event.
- Mega Raids will have boosted odds of encountering a Shiny Rayquaza, so keep your eyes peeled for that black serpent after a raid.
Mega Evolving Rayquaza in Pokémon GO
Unfortunately, mega evolving Rayquaza won’t be as easy as the other megas in Pokémon GO. Apart from a specific amount of Mega Energy, you’ll also need to teach Rayquaza the move Dragon Ascent as its Charged Attack before it can mega evolve.
Rayquaza can only learn Dragon Ascent by collecting Meteorites, which are obtainable as rewards from completing Timed Research tasks.
Important: Once you complete a Mega Rayquaza raid, the post-battle encounter will feature the standard Rayquaza, not its Mega form.

We all know that event tickets for events like this are optional, but we highly recommend all Mega Rayquaza Raid Day participants buy its $5 event ticket at the Pokemon GO Shop to make it much easier to find a good-IV Rayquaza and make it stronger through Candies.
Specifically, event ticket holders will enjoy the following benefits:
- Eight additional Raid Passes from spinning Gym Photo Discs, giving a total of 14 chances to join Mega Rayquaza raids.
- Better chances of acquiring Rare Candy XL after raids.
- 50% additional XP and double Stardust from raids.
- More Timed Research tasks that reward Meteorites.
Use the Campfire app to look for Pokémon GO meetups near your location. Doing raids with lots of players will make taking down Mega Rayquaza much easier and more fun.
