Pokémon GO players battle “impossible” GMax Snorlax throws

GMax Snorlax was a very big challenge, but not in the way you’d expect.

Today's GMax Snorlax battles have proven difficult for Pokémon GO trainers, with great and excellent throws unusually difficult to land.

Landing a great or excellent throw in Pokémon GO always takes a bit of skill and timing. Different Pokémon are closer or further away, changing the amount of "power" you need to give a PokéBall in order to land it. Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon are, obviously, massive and therefore require a bit of a different throw.

However, today, GMax Snorlax was so close that even the lightest touch on the PokéBall meant it launched incredibly powerfully. As a result, many Trainers found Excellent, or even Great Throws impossible, this made GMax Snorlax a lot harder to catch.

GMax Snorlax throws prove surprisingly difficult

Now, throws being difficult isn't exactly unusual in Pokémon GO. We've seen Legendary and Shadow Pokémon be very hard to catch due to movement and constant attacks. Something being a tough catch isn't a problem, it's part of the game.

However, today was clearly a major Pokémon GO bug, as was discussed on Reddit. Trainers were forced to turn to Black and White Kyurem's Adventure Effects in order to try and improve the catch rate.

The issue seems to come because Gigantamax Snorlax is lying down. That moved the catch circle lower on the screen, which made hitting Great or Excellent Throws a lot harder with the power that powered up PokéBalls have.

Unfortunately, Snorlax has quite a low catch rate. That meant Trainers were struggling with GMax Snorlax as a result of not landing the best throws, which improves the catch rate considerably.

It's not clear if this was a bug serious enough for Niantic to address. We've seen plenty of make-up events, rewards and research over the last few months. The Max Battles were even extended in early regions due to a different bug.

However, if you are yet to get out and battle Gigantamax Snorlax, prepare for some challenging throws!
