The Teamfight Tactics Set 8 Monsters Attack! Mid Set-Finale, which began on March 3 and ended March 5, featured 32 of North America's finest TFT players. A total of 18 games of Teamfight Tactics were played over three days in order to crown a champion who would receive $7,500 USD and an automatic seed into the Monsters Attack! Global Championship.

Each day of competition featured six games of intense competition. At the end of the first day, 16 out of 32 players were eliminated to decide the top 16. The second day determined the top eight performers who advanced to the finals.

How Wasianiverson won the Set 8 Mid-Set Finale

After a strong finish in the first two days of competition, Wasianiverson continued right where he left off. He placed second in the first four out of six games in the finals. With such a good start, it didn't look like anyone would be able to catch up to him. In the fifth game, his brilliance did not waver. He secured a first-place finish in that game and maintained an incredible lead over his opponents at 36 points.

Going into the final game, the only competitor who could catch up to him was Broccoli. If Wasianiverson bombed out in eighth place and Broccoli clutched a first-place finish, then Broccoli would be able to overtake Wasianiverson. However, the stars did not align this way. After a phenomenal performance across three days of competition, Wasianiverson was crowned the winner of the Monsters Attack! Mid-Set Finale.

Through his win, Wasianiverson earned $7,500 USD and the right to represent North America at the Set 8 Monsters Attack! Global Championship!

What the victory means to him

After winning the Teamfight Tactics Set 8 Monsters Attack! Mid-Set Finale and becoming North America's first representative at the World Championships this year, here's what Wasianiverson had to say about his tournament victory.

It means a lot. It feels very unreal right now. [...] I didn't even really consider it [winning Mid-Set finale] until game four or five. And then it hit me that I might be going to Worlds.

Study group

Those who follow the competitive scene closely also know that the second and third place finishers, Milala and Bossoskills, are friends that make up a portion of Wasianiverson's TFT study group. Wasianiverson did not shy away from crediting them in helping shape the player he became in this tournament.

I feel like it's an overstatement that we're a study group. We really just play together and talk about the game and maybe talk about what's good... give each other advice. We're always disagreeing on things, but getting a completely different perspective is very helpful and forces me to think about a lot of things that I might have not considered in the first place. I think that helped me grow as a player a lot.

Chances at the Monsters Attack! Global Championship

Wasianiverson now has the opportunity to compete against the world's finest TFT players at the Monsters Attack! Global Championship. North America's quest to disrupt China's dominance begins with some fighting words.

I do respect China a lot. Especially Flancy. [...] During Sureshot meta, [...] I learned a lot of things from him about how to play because I wasn't very comfortable playing those lines. But at the same time, everyone's human. These Chinese players, even if they're insanely good, you can see them making mistakes in all their games. Me and everyone else in this tournament does that as well. I think if I keep improving, I'll have a good chance.

Congratulations to Wasianiverson and best of luck to our first North American representative for the Set 8 Monsters Attack! Global Championship!
