Tekken 8 sales pass 2 million copies sold worldwide

Bandai Namco have confirmed that Tekken 8 has sold over 2 million copies worldwide since its launch on January 26, on par with SF6.

Tekken 8 sales have surpassed 2 million copies sold worldwide in just one month, according to a social media post by the developer themselves.

The latest entry in the Tekken franchise launched worldwide on January 26, following a demo made available to PS5, XBOX and PC users in December.

Tekken 8 on par with Street Fighter 6 in sales

In terms of copies sold in the first month, Tekken 8 sales are on par with Street Fighter 6 that also sold two million in the first month of release. Capcom's Street Fighter 6 also managed to sell one million copies in its first five days.

Interestingly Mortal Kombat, another legacy FGC title, took six months to reach three million copies sold after releasing in September 2023. Mortal Kombat 1 has dwindled from 11,000 concurrent players for the release of Kombat Pack 1 in November 2023, to about 1,250 in February 2024.

Tekken 8 player base stable

Tekken 8 is still in its infancy but the player base, according to SteamDB, is now hovering one month after launch at around 20,000 concurrent players. Reviews for Tekken 8 on Steam are "Very Positive" and the community at large has been vocal about how impressed they are about how much content is in the game.

New content on the way

Tekken 8 sales might continue to grow, especially with the Tekken 8 Road Map was shared on February 20, which outlined the imminent arrival of a Tekken Shop featuring a Tekken UNIQLO collaboration both in-game and IRL.

Bandai Namco also released plans for the Tekken World Tour which kicks of in April 2024. Eddy Gordo, the first of four Tekken 8 DLC characters scheduled for Season 1, will also be added before April.

We're curious to see how Tekken 8 sales are going in 3 months, but for now it's an incredibly impressive start.
