Esports.gg managed to get some words from Asuna following 100 Thieves vs. Sentinels during VCT Americas Kickoff.

Peter "Asuna" Mazuryk has been a main stay of 100 Thieves VALORANT for years. He has carried the team through thick and thin, but the 2025 season didn't start off with the results he was hoping for. 100T fell to SEN in their VCT Americas Kickoff opener.

Asuna is a man of few words, and quite frankly, seemed a bit disinterested to speak to media members after suffering a defeat. Regardless, esports.gg was given the time to talk to him after the match up and we got out of him what we could.

"Some knew it going into the match, but it was noted on the broadcast. You’re the longest tenured player this year, because of your time on 100 Thieves. With so much time spent in VALORANT, on one team, how do the stakes compare this year to others?"

Asuna: "I think it's always the same every year. I don't think 100 Thieves has ever been an org that doesn't want to win championships or compete to make internationals, you know? So, every year it's the same. Insane rosters some years, but you go into a year and it's a little different. I think every year, we've always as an org, and I as a player, have given my 100% and try to make internationals."

"And when it comes to taking on Sentinels, they just have your number. I mean, you beat them the time before this one, but no other time during the VCT league era. Why do you think they’re such a difficult matchup for you guys?"

Asuna: "I played them twice in 2023, I think three times last year. And then just now once. I mean, in 2023, our roster wasn't good. Maybe we just didn't mesh and click well together when we needed to. So, you know, just tough.

"And then 2024, we beat them at the end of the year, so you can argue we were a better team than them then. But overall, this loss definitely felt like we should have won. Obviously, I could say that after every loss, but it felt different. We're 13:4, then we're up on Bind, could have easily ran away with it and just not looked back.

"But obviously we didn't close it out. So, yeah, SEN having our number, I don't know. It's just tough when they always have a really good roster every year. It's not like you're going to get a bad roster from Sentinels, that you're just going to farm, or they're going to be underwhelming or whatever."

"Now, let’s talk about some crazy plays you hit today. The zipline kill on Split, getting kills while blind, the blast pack move on Bind. Of course, you’d like those plays to amount to a win, so do you think you can keep up that consistency the entire year?"

Asuna: "I mean, some of those plays are just pure luck, so no, I'm not exactly relying on that."

"Well, last year, things started and ended rough. The success was found during Stage 1 on your way to Masters Shanghai. Was it a focus during this off-season to try and get the team rolling early on?"

Asuna: "I wouldn't say so. I mean, obviously the ball's already rolling from last year. It's not like anything changes. So, I wouldn't say we're going into this year trying to, I guess roll in a certain way. I don't know how to explain it.

"I would say we're just keeping the momentum going from last year. It's tough with meta changes really early in the year. And so everything you did in the off-season, just frankly doesn't matter. A lot of the maps, you just change your comps to fit Tejo in and or play against Tejo.

"And if you're running a certain comp and then they introduce a new Agent that is very not strong, because I wouldn't call him overpowered, I would just say he's very explosive. He's very punishing if you aren't on top of your stuff. He can be really good. But yeah, every year, it is a different game and we're just trying to get Zander up to speed. That's about it."

"Okay, so let’s just go over the match itself quickly. Obviously, a heavy win in your favor on Split. So, I’ll give you an open floor for Bind and Pearl. Tell me your takeaways and what you feel didn’t go quite right for 100 Thieves on those last two maps."

Asuna: "For Bind? Just our defensive reads, without going into too much detail, but generally we don't play like that, so it was just a little odd. And yeah, I think overall that would be the point. And then on attack, we had to solve a way to play against the Tejo on the fly, so that was a little bit different than we're used to.

"On Pearl, it was a pretty good attack, except for a thrifty, in my eyes. They did really good and defense was the bigger problem on that map. We, again, struggled against with Tejo, when they can drone out the entire site. Molly the spots that are, you know, it's a lot of utility. Then they have an Ult to pop it all off. But we definitely should be able to find a way to win."

"Up next is NRG in an elimination game. What are your thoughts on the new look of their roster and how 100 Thieves might match up against them?"

Asuna: "Last year we beat them, so should be the same this year."
