BBL Queens vs Team Liquid Brazil 2023 Game Changers Championship: Liquid take down BBL in a tense match to secure Top 4 finish

BBL Queens found themselves on the receiving end of another VALORANT masterclass from Shopify Rebellion in their last match. They now find themselves up against a rejuvenated Team Liquid squad in an effort to keep their tournament hopes alive. And with their squad not in the greatest state right now, with three of their players, Eva, Vania and Wens, contracting COVID-19 in this tournament.

The Turkish side will have to hope that their players are able to push through her illnesses today. But they also need their main duelist Alkyia to kick it into high gear today as she has struggled to make much of an impact thus far at Game Changers. Otherwise EMEA's number 1 seed could find themselves facing another sort of beatdown today against Team Liquid.

The Brazilians looked much improved in their previous match in which they beat Evil Geniuses 2 - 0. Daiki and Joojina's performances in particular, were at the forefront of a truly world class display. Though things are unlikely to be as simple for them against this BBL side. If they can continue to put up these high kill displays, then Team Liquid Brazil could truly count themselves as a contender for the Game Changers crown--Which the Sao Paulo crowd would certainly enjoy seeing.

We begin the match with a trip to Ascent curtesy of Team Liquid Brazil. Both sides go for the tried and true double-initiator composition.

Team Liquid take the opening pistol round thanks to a 3k from BSTRDD. The Brazilians make quick work of BBL in their anti-eco followed by a 2 v 3 clutch from Joojina and Bizerra in the bonus to give them a solid lead on attack. Liquid notch their fourth round win a row only for BBL to respond with a well-worked set piece to get themselves on the board. The map turns into a battle of wits between the two sides, with BBL finding a lot of value from their early round aggression and Liquid with their mid-round calls. The Brazilians do manage to take a 7 - 5 lead into halftime, but only by the skin of their teeth.

BBL waste no time ramping up the tempo on their attack as they take the second pistol round with ease. They convert on their anti-eco just as quickly but lose their bonus as TL maintain their lead from the first half. The Turkish side manage to tie the game up again at 8 - 8, but once more Liquid scrap their way back into the lead, this time hitting the double digit mark. Issa and Daiki come up with back to back clutches to put the Brazilians on map point. And with BBL's backs up against the wall, Team Liquid are able to take full advantage of their desperation. Culminating in them closing out Ascent 13 - 8 and giving themselves a 1 - 0 lead in the series.

Following their capitulation on Ascent, BBL Queens bring us over to Haven for map 2. And while TL opt to stick with their typical double-controller comp, BBL place their bets on their double-initiator setup. With Felipa bringing out Breach.

Team Liquid come up with the opening pistol round thanks to an incredible clutch from Joojina. This followed up by another clutch, this time from bizerra, despite a strong stand from BBL. And the Turkish side are rewarded for the efforts with an anti-bonus to get themselves on the board. The game once again becomes a drawn out duel, with BBL managing to outlast TL's pace changes and tie the map up at 5 - 5. But Joojina steps up to the plate for Liquid with two back to back clutches to give the team a 7 - 5 lead to take into the second half.

BBL spring into action on their attack half as they claim the second pistol round and their anti-eco to tie the map up at 7 - 7. Bizerra comes up with a 4k to net the anti-bonus for Liquid, but BBL answer right back to keep things level. And the Turkish side manage to take their offense to the next level as they reach the 10-point mark with Alkyia continuously getting herself in the face of the Liquid players. A heads up play from Wens gets BBL onto map point and leaves TL with little to work with in terms of their economy. But issa comes up with a heroic clutch to keep her team in it. A moment which provides Liquid with the boost they needed as they manage to push Haven into Overtime.

Overtime begins with a bang as Eva and Vania put BBL back onto map point despite the best efforts of Joojina and bizerra. However Joojina shrugs off the prior round to come up with a great stand to tie things up once more and send the map into a second set of overtime rounds. Bizerra and Issa deliver the goods for Team Liquid on their second attack round to put themselves on match point. And the duo held firm in their task on defense to get Team Liquid across the line with a 15 - 13 win on Haven. Netting the Brazilians a 2 - 0 series win as well as securing a Top 4 finish at the 2023 Game Changers Championship.
