Fnatic vs EG Masters Tokyo 2023: Fnatic punch their ticket to the Masters Tokyo Grand Finals

We have a huge match in store for us in the form of Fnatic versus Evil Geniuses in the Masters Tokyo upper-bracket final. Both teams have impressed viewers throughout the tournament, but only one of them will advance to the Grand Finals after this. You can catch all of the action here as it happens.

Fnatic have been flawless thus far at Masters Tokyo. The LOCK//IN champions look as though they are in the top form of their lives right now. Their 2-0 wins over NRG and Paper Rex in their first two games of the tournament certainly underline this. They now find themselves with a chance to book a slot in their second major tournament final of the season. But their opponents today will certainly make life difficult for them.

Evil Geniuses have been the biggest surprise of Masters Tokyo and in the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) season in general. They defied plenty of expectations just by making it to the tournament. Since the start of the Masters, they have beaten DRX, LOUD, and Team Liquid on their way to securing a guaranteed top-four finish.

They now find themselves up against another tough challenge in the form of Fnatic, who have decimated every opponent so far. But if there is one thing we have all learned from watching this roster, it is that you can never truly count Evil Geniuses out of any match.

Will Evil Geniuses manage to claim the scalp of another top dog here in Tokyo, or will Fnatic prove to be an insurmountable foe for them? We cannot wait to find out.

The match begins with a trip to Lotus for Map 1. Evil Geniuses opt to go with their double-initiator setup with Jawgemo on his trusty Omen. Fnatic go with their double-controller composition.

Fnatic takes the opening pistol round and go for a very aggressive purchase in their anti-eco to kickstart their attack half. And they make quick work of EG in the first couple of rifle rounds to establish a 4 - 0 lead. This prompts EG to use their first timeout in an attempt to recompose themselves. But the lead only continues to build for Fnatic as they continue to punish EG for some over-aggression on their defence. Particularly from Boostio who has really struggled to make a positive impact in this first half for his side. EG eventually manage to get themselves on the board, but Fnatic's dominance has been firmly established as they take a 10 - 2 lead into halftime.

Fnatic's hot start to the series continues as they secure a flawless pistol round to take their lead to 11 - 2. EG barely manage to secure the eco round, despite the best efforts of Derke and Leo. Nevertheless Fnatic are able to reach map point immediately afterwards. And with Derke racking up the final multi-kill of the map, Fnatic put a stamp on Lotus. Taking the map with a 13 - 3 scoreline and establishing a well-deserved 1 - 0 lead in the series.

After a demoralising performance on Lotus, Evil Geniuses bring us to their home turf of Fracture for Map 2 of this series. Both sides opt to go for double-initiator compositions, with C0M's Sova being the key difference in this matchup.

EG manage to take the opening pistol round of the map despite the best efforts of Leo. And they take care of business in their anti-eco round. Only for Fnatic punch their way back in with a couple of set-plays to tie the map back up at 2 - 2. The game descends into a brawl as EG manage to regain control of the first half with a couple of heroic moments thrown into the mix. They continue to grow in confidence on the map as their lead builds to 7 - 3, whereas Fnatic look lost for answers on their attack. Culminating in EG taking a 9 - 3 lead into halftime.

Derke gets a 4k to give Fnatic the second pistol round of the map as they look to bounce back on their defence. They convert on their anti-eco but falter on their bonus as EG reaches the double-digit mark at 10 - 5. But Fnatic's fortunes look much greater on the defence as they manage to break down EG's post-plant setups to pull within touching distance of their lead. But C0M comes up with the goods when EG need him the most as they reach map point at 12 - 9. They may have been down and out on Lotus, but on Fracture Evil Geniuses looked like a whole different team. And as the dust settles on the map, EG are able to take it 13 - 9 to tie the series up 1 - 1.

After Evil Geniuses' incredible bounce back on Fracture, the teams head over to Split for the third and final map in this series. Both sides opt to go for their standard meta compositions. With Fnatic leaning into their tried and true double-initiator setup. And EG go with their double-duellist, double-initiator setup.

EG get the first pistol round as well as their anti-eco to kick things off on their attack half. Fnatic responds with two solid rounds on their defence to keep things level early in this half. EG look as though they are going to run away with this series as they manage to break past Fnatic's defensive setups. But Fnatic manage to scrap their way back into the fray as the map is all tied up again at 5 - 5. They look like they might be able to take the lead, but some clutch utility usage by Boostio keeps that outcome for happening. Nevertheless the teams go into the halftime break level at 6 - 6.

Fnatic takes the second pistol round as well as their anti-eco to give them the lead at 8 - 6. They manage to reach the double digit mark soon afterwards. Boostio and Demon1 go big for EG to pull themselves within one round of tying the map up. But Fnatic barely maintains their advantage, despite some more heroics from C0M, as they reach match point at 12 - 10.

Demon1 goes big again for EG to give his side hope of Overtime. But in the dying seconds of regulation time, it is Leo who dons the cape for Fnatic as they manage to close out Split 13 - 11. Winning the series 2 - 1 and booking their place in the Masters Tokyo Grand Final.

VCT Masters Tokyo is here at long last. Ten teams representing each of the three leagues, as well as two invited teams from China, are set to battle it out in Japan for a chance at Masters glory.
