NAVI and Liquid set for a huge clash at the top of the EMEA table
Two of Europe's heavyweight teams are set to do battle in a thrilling Week 6 matchup. NAVI and Liquid currently sit at second and third in the VCT EMEA standings respectively and truly look like a cut above the rest at the moment. And both sides will be looking to keep up the pressure on league leaders Fnatic.
NAVI have finally begun to rediscover the sort of form that made them a force to be reckoned with last season. They were victorious the last time out in a relatively straightforward 2 - 0 win over Team Vitality. Though the maps they have played have been close-run affairs as of late, their ability to suffocate their opponents with their exceptional mid-round calls are a huge reason why NAVI currently sits in second place. As well as some equally impressive performances from their main duelist cNed.
A win against Liquid today would allow them to pile even more pressure on fierce rivals Fnatic at the top of the table. But how will they cope against this ferocious Liquid squad?
Team Liquid have been on a bit of a tear in their last couple of matches on the Berlin stage; coming out on top against Giants in a tense 2 - 1 series in Week 5. While the team isn't quite as well-organized as NAVI, they more than make up for it with their raw slaying ability. Particularly from their main duelist Sayf, who has been their main source of kills throughout League Play. But they will be without their star man today, leaving Liquid's sub Harmii to step against NAVI; making him the first German player to take to the VCT EMEA stage.
A win today would see them overtake NAVI in the standings. And while a loss wouldn't necessarily hurt their playoff chances, it would certainly help to show that they are still capable of taking on the big boys of the VCT.

NAVI survive a tense game on Fracture
We head to Fracture curtesy of NAVI to begin this match. Team Liquid opts to use the tried and true double initiator comp. Whereas NAVI opt to use a double controller setup with Shao playing Omen instead of a more traditional Brimstone and cNed hoping back on the Yoru train.
NAVI wins the second pistol round, but Liquid trade it out with a huge anti-eco round win. The teams continue to scrap things out similar to how things went in the first half. With Liquid opting to mainly play for retakes. A strategy that serves them well for the most part as the sides remain locked in a never-ending struggle. NAVI manage to reach map point at 12 - 10, but Liquid continue to hang on. Putting themselves on the brink of Overtime.
It was an action packed map from start to finish, with both sides having to rely upon their players to pull off some incredible moments. And that proved to be the deciding factor in the end, with Suygetsu pulling off a huge 4k in the final round of regulation. Allowing NAVI to take Fracture 13 - 11 and put themselves ahead in the series at 1 - 0.
NAVI snatches Bind away from Liquid
After barely losing out on Fracture, Team Liquid bring us to Bind for the second map of this series. And while they decide to go with another fairly standard team composition, NAVI continues to throw a wrench into the works as cNed decides to stick with Yoru.
Team Liquid takes the opening pistol round as well as their anti-eco and bonus rounds to establish an early 3 - 0 lead on Bind; the biggest lead any team has had thus far in the series. NAVI get themselves onto the board afterwards with a well-worked Thrifty win. But their slow, methodical approach to this map serves to enhance Liquid's more relaxed approach on defense. With Jamppi having a very strong start to the map at 10 kills and 4 deaths after 9 rounds. NAVI manage to scrap their way back into the map, but it remains advantage Liquid at 7 - 5 going into halftime.
NAVI takes the second pistol round of the map as they draw within striking distance of Liquid's lead. But Liquid wins their anti-eco to maintain a slight advantage on their map pick. NAVI does manage to tie the map up at 8 - 8. The game descends back into another scrappy affair, but Liquid regain their minimal advantage as they hit the double digit mark. NAVI pull off another Thrifty round as well as an anti-eco to give themselves their first lead of the map at 11 - 10. They reach match point soon after, but another big play from Jamppi give Liquid a chance at sending this to Overtime. It was a much better performance overall from Liquid, but sadly the individual brilliance of their players was not enough to see the job through to the end. And with one last calculated push, NAVI closed out Bind 13 - 11 to take the series 2 - 0.
