NRG vs PRX Masters Tokyo: PRX stuns NRG on Bind to eliminate them

Top 3 is on the line with NRG vs PRX. One team is known for their Lower Bracket magic and the other has made it to this point without one of their star players at VCT Masters Tokyo. Tournament hopes will be crushed when this one comes to an end.

This is a Lower Bracket bout between one of Americas' finest and the top seed of Pacific. Despite shortcomings in the upper portion of the Bracket Stage, these two teams have some solid victories under their belt leading into this series.

NRG, once again, has reached a top placement at an international event with its core of players. Their ability to turn things around after a loss is second to none. The consistency will need to remain if they want to push past PRX.

And speaking of PRX, no one expected them to make it this far, even after winning VCT Pacific. They are without Ilya "something" Petrov and instead have CGRS on board. He's done his job surprisingly well and has contributed to the chaotic nature of PRX. They'll need that if they want to get the win over NRG.

A 3K by Victor started Pearl, giving NRG the pistol round on defense. Of course, they took the following, but PRX were able to buy and even things out early on. NRG pushed back immediately, but PRX remained hot on their heels. A lengthy flank by f0rsakeN just before halftime only gained him one kill and saw the round devolve into chaos. PRX failed to capitalize as things slowed down and NRG was up at the half 7:5.

The chaos continued into the second half as a battle at mid dwindled both teams' numbers. PRX came out worse for wear and NRG stretched their lead. A 3K by FNS followed to extend their lead just a bit. Paper Rex was not ready to fold yet, though. They played the aggressor and took the fight to NRG to close the gap. The two teams went back and forth with heroics all around. Then a huge 4K by d4v41 forced overtime.

PRX started OT on attack and immediately targeted the B site after winning a couple of fights mid. That set them up for the lead and map point. NRG responded with a quick A site hit, getting the Spike down and eliminating PRX to even the score. PRX went ahead again off a heads up play by CGRS stopping s0m from clutching. The next round was an easy defensive stand by PRX that gave them the first map of the series.

Much like Pearl, NRG snagged the pistol rather quickly. PRX got on the board soon after with an Odin Ace by f0rsakeN. That was all they'd get for a while. NRG executed their site hits well and made sure PRX could not retake. There was just nothing that PRX could do. And just before halftime, a big lurk came in from FNS that gave NRG the A site and 10 rounds.

In the second half pistol round, PRX had C site, but CGRS' Wingman was shot during the plant. Instead of resetting to get the Spike down, they pushed into NRG who stopped them in their tracks. The following round went to PRX, though, as it mirrored the pistol except for the fact that they forced a buy. A solid post-plant hold got them to five rounds and invoked a bit of hope for the Pacific champs. NRG's lead was just a bit much, however. They halted any comeback attempt and took us to map three.

Bind started with ardiis on a surprising Chamber picked that looked to catch PRX off guard. Well, he died first and PRX got their sole pistol round of the series. Subsequent rounds were much more impactful from him and NRG. PRX wasn't going to give up a huge lead this time around. Another cracked Ace by f0rsakeN got them started. That was followed by a ridiculous 4K from Jinggg, ensuring the first half remained competitive. The multikills kept piling up for PRX, but NRG actually managed a small lead at halftime.

A speedy pistol round went to NRG. PRX decided to spend some credits and match NRG in terms of firepower. It paid off and they kept it close. It wasn't long until the rounds were tied at nine, then a quick Flawless put PRX in the lead with double digits. After getting to series point, NRG did all they could to force OT. A 3K from FNS prevented a B site hit and NRG got it within one. Overtime would not be, though, as PRX dominated the final round of regulation to send NRG packing from VCT Masters Tokyo.
