It’s an advancement match in Group A. One team earns two wins for its tournament score and secures a spot in the final brackets.

On one hand, we have clear favorites in this match. Paper Rex won VALORANT Masters Toronto 2025, so they are certainly focused on the biggest trophy of this esports season. On the other hand, GIANTX already defeated Sentinels in the Group Stage of VALORANT Champions 2025. This team sure would enjoy such a big upset!

Paper Rex versus GIANTX will decide who becomes the #1 team in Group A. The winners will advance directly to the Playoffs. The losers will not be out, though, as there will be one more chance for them to stay in the tournament.

Match recap

GIANTX lost this match, but they demonstrated amazing potential. They certainly won many hearts of VALORANT fans!

Paper Rex didn’t dominate even in the maps they won. GX always seemed to find a way back, racking up kills and keeping PRX on edge. For the reigning Masters champions, it wasn’t a match to inspire confidence. It was more about surviving against really strong opponents.

We'll have a chance to witness the play by GX in at least one more game. Their next opponent will be decided between Sentinels and XLG Esports.

Map 1, Ascent

The Paper Rex rushed into Game 1 with cheerful smiles on their faces. They are the favorites, and it’s their map pick. In the beginning, things looked just right for PRX: the pistols round and a couple more building up an early advantage.

GIANTX made their breakthrough in Round 4 thanks to their extremely aggressive play. That let GX even ruin the economy of their opponents and go ahead in the match score.

The back-and-forth game continued, and PRX did not smile that much, especially their coach. Alecks looked desperate.

F0rsakeN on Omen won Round 8 for his team, and it generally felt like wins come from just the crazy skills of the PRX players. In Round 14, it was time for GX to show off their skills. Westside was a crucial power in terms of winning an eco round.

Even as defenders, GX were very active and aggressive. Flickless delivered crucial kills of GX to reach the map point. And then, the underdogs sealed the deal on this map.

Map 2, Lotus

In Game 2, Paper Rex treated us to some really quick matches of VALORANT. They were very aggressive with their pushes in the beginning, which brought PRX a few rounds. They managed to kill all their opponents in Round 13 in just five seconds!

PRX mixed this with some more cautious approaches to the bombsites. And quite often, GIANTX had great responses to both styles.

Once again, westside was a hero on the GX side. He delivered even more amazing kills on Lotus, like sensing a tricky rotation of something or gaining a man advantage in the second pistol round.

PRX reached the match point, and then they stumbled with how stubborn their opponents were. GIANX won four rounds in a row. Sometimes, PRX were overaggressive, willing to finish the match. Sometimes, it was a brilliant play by GX, like winning from an early 4v5.

The comeback of GIANTX did not happen, though. PRX still managed to deliver that final hit and bring the match to Sunset.

Map 3, Sunset

The first half of this game was rather close, with just a slight advantage for Paper Rex. They took the pistols again, with a brilliant play by something. GIANX responded in style in Round 3, methodically eliminating almost all the opponents.

GX won another eco buy in this series to secure Round 6. That was a great clutch! PRX showed they can also win rounds from a 4v5 disadvantage.

The back-and-forth continued till the side switch. Then, on the defending side, Paper Rex caught their game: from another amazing pistol play by something to notorious, well-coordinated team play in other rounds.

GINATX delivered a wonderful 1v4 clutch: by ara in Round 18. Still, it wasn’t enough.

Only d4v41 remained alive in the final game of this match. But that was just fine to defuse Spike and let Paper Rex advance to the next stage of VALORANT Champions 2025.

Heading to the match: Different stories of Paper Rex and GIANTX in VALORANT esports

As an esports organization, Paper Rex has been competing in VALORANT since 2020. Sure, the players change in the active roster, but PRX can still show off with big achievements:

  • 2nd at Masters Copenhagen 2022
  • 3rd at Masters Tokyo 2023
  • 2nd at Champions 2023
  • 3rd at Masters Madrid 2024
  • 1st at Masters Toronto 2025

It certainly feels like the team is up to lifting the Champions trophy at last! Paper Rex has all the power for this, but the starting match in Group A is not a proper challenge: 2:0 versus XLG Esports.

GIANTX entered the VALORANT esports scene in 2024 after merging two organizations: Excel Esports and Giants. Not only is Champions 2025 the first big international tournament for this team, but it’s also the first time GIANTX achieves a decent regional result. GX finished 2nd in VCT 2025: EMEA Stage 2.

One of the original organizations, Giants, had a longer story. However, the organization had no big international success.

The first match at VALORANT Champions 2025 is pretty promising for GIANTX. They defeated Sentinels, even if the battle was close — 2:1.

The Playoffs Stage at VALORANT Champions 2025 starts on Sept. 25. But even before these two amazing weekends of final bracket matches, we can enjoy quite a few Group Stage battles.
