Sentinels vs. Team Liquid - Which team is headed home early?

These are both the second seed teams from their region. For SEN in Americas, they went back and forth in a five-map Grand Final against G2. In EMEA, Team Liquid were poised to win it all, but were reverse swept in the Grand Final by the playoff-bound Team Vitality.

Two huge fan bases, two talented teams, but only one to stay alive in Masters Bangkok. And this series is only the beginning. The winner will have to fight just as hard one more time, as they will need a second victory to reach the playoffs.

Expect this one to be a battle of the two teams' minds. With masterful in-game leaders at the helm, they both will look to out-call each other and ensure their players are in the right positions to succeed and advance to the next day.

Sentinels vs. Team Liquid - Masters Bangkok recap

When the series starts, you'll find all of the action laid out here, along with clips to highlight what happened. We'll hit that update button every half.

Map 1: Lotus

Sentinels wasted no time getting on the board, only losing one player in the pistol round. They'd take the next, but TL fought back and tied things up after halting a SEN eco round. To take back the lead, zekken and bang executed a solid retake. Liquid tied it again, though, after a blunder of a round by SEN.

It was a back and forth affair without either team really gaining a huge advantage in the first half of the series. It looked like it would stay even throughout, but Sentinels managed a couple of good rounds to have a short lead at halftime.

A pistol round victory by Team Liquid continued the trend of closeness on Lotus. They'd get the next with superior firepower, and would fall just short of converting the bonus round, allowing SEN to snatch back the lead. Their lead grew from there.

Some very tight rounds looked like they could go either way, but SEN persevered through them. It wasn't long until they reached double digits, soon followed by them hitting 11 rounds on map one. A speedy B Site push by SEN got them to map point and that was all she wrote just a round later.

Map 2: Abyss

Team Liquid took to their map pick of Abyss want to get their vengeance. They went up by two rather quickly. With some better weaponry, though, Sentinels stole away the bonus and the next to tie it. Soon, SEN would grab the lead, only for a chaotic round to go in favor of TL to keep it close again.

A 4K and a Clutch from IGL nAts got TL the lead once more. That was followed by a Flawless round, but a Clutch by N4RRATE stopped them from pulling too far ahead. It took zekken and N4RRATE falling off the map to get TL their momentum. And even then, a scrappy Thrifty for SEN kept it close at the half.

A retake by SEN fell apart and Keiko netted a 3K to win TL the pistol round. TL got up to nine rounds, but a huge 3K by bang gave SEN their first second half round. Leave it to bang around to get the final kill of the next round and get SEN to seven. After that was eight and SEN's defense looked unbreakable.

That was until kamyk held down a post-plant with an insane 1v4 clutch. That put Team Liquid to 10, and they almost got to 11 with an eco round, but the better weaponry gave SEN the advantage to tie. A 4K by paTiTek would make that 11 a reality in the next and a Thrifty put them at 12.

SEN hung on, though, showcasing the closeness of this Sentinels vs. Team Liquid matchup. They'd take it to OT and start it as the attacking team. A great defensive stand by TL put them up back at map point immediately. Team Liquid got a quick pick and a plant, but SEN's retake would not be denied.

It was johnqt and zekken to clutch up and defuse the Spike with just .80 left. A less stressful retake by Team Liquid took place in the next round to get them ahead again. And back and forth they go, as a 3K from zekken with just nine HP got SEN to 14.

A 3K shown above by Keiko was yet another lead-taking play for Team Liquid in overtime. They'd start the next with a rapid strike onto the A Site. Zellsis went down early, but the rest of SEN hoped to retake the site and continue the map.

Traded kill after traded kill looked for the round to go either way. It was the IGL nAts for Team Liquid that stood his ground on the post-plant. He picked off the final two SEN players to shut down their defense and push Sentinels vs. Team Liquid to Bind.

Map 3: Bind

Team Liquid kept up their winning ways from the prior map with a pistol round victory. They'd take the next and SEN fumbled the bonus to get TL to three. It looked like nothing was going right for SEN as TL pulled out a fourth. Liquid continued to roll off of a 3K from nAts.

SEN looked like they'd take their first, but TL's Wingman stuck a defuse to go 6:0. Another one just fell apart for SEN, as they teleported to A and nAts held it down with a 4K. He'd do it again with a 3K to get TL to 8:0. The half would finally come to an end with a 11:1 score.

A comfortable lead would be the biggest understatement of all time. Coming back for was as near impossible as it gets for SEN. TL started the second half with a fast hit on A Site, taking the pistol round and getting right to map and series point.

SEN had no choice but to force a buy, but Team Liquid's firepower was too much to stave off elimination. The second round of the second half was the end of it all, as Team Liquid eliminated Sentinels and stayed alive at Masters Bangkok.
