Tactical Stance in MW3: What it is and how to use it

Need kills for your tac-stance challenge? Here’s how to rack them up.

The best stance? A tactical stance, obviously. In MW3, you’re given the luxury of multiple ways to shoot and play your own game, and Tactical Stance is one of them.

There's a learning curve involved with getting used to the stance. However, in time you'll find it provides a... tactical advantage. Good stance, that.

In my first experience of tactical stance, I missed every bullet. But, you’ll get the hang of it once you get a few matches in. So, let's head out onto the field, see what there is to see, and make the most of the MW3 Tactical Stance!

Have you ever accidentally turned your weapon on an angle in MW3? That’s a Tactical Stance.

While it may seem as if it has no benefits, it definitely can be used effectively and efficiently. For those who haven’t seen it, your weapon will be held around a 45-degree angle, leaving your iron or red dot sights tilted on the side of your weapon.

Odds are, you’ll get challenges requiring you to get as many kills in tactical stance as the Sledgehammer Games overlords desire. This means you’ll have to know how to use it. As it turns out, you’ve come to the right place.

Tactical stance in MW3, otherwise known as "Tac Stance" can be punishing in your first attempts. You’ll likely miss each bullet and die in the process. To use it intentionally, aim down sights and press down on the D-pad.

Your red dot, holographic, and iron sights will be significantly more impactful at further distances. This means, to use the tactical stance effectively in MW3, make sure you’re using it in close-range encounters. A tactical stance will reduce your hip-fire spread. This makes you far more accurate than shooting at the hip alone.

It still isn’t as accurate as ADSing, so keep in mind it’s not perfect. This is where trial and error comes into play. But, keeping at a close distance is the best place to start.

Sliding toward an enemy and using your tactical stance is incredibly effective. It provides fast movement speeds and gets that massive weapon out of the way as you shoot. This makes it far easier to see and shoot your opponents.

Use the tactical stance in MW3 like this, and you’ll smash through your challenges in no time.
