TSM has announced its departure from NA Dota 2 as it releases its entire roster.
Team SoloMid has officially separated from NA Dota 2 as per an announcement on their social media. The organization, which joined competitive Dota in 2022, departs after just under two full years.
Following the departure announcement, it was confirmed by ESL that the remaining players would still compete at ESL One Kuala Lumpur under the moniker Team Undying. Team Undying was the stack that was originally picked up by TSM in 2022.
For ESL One Kuala Lumpur will consist of Enzo "Timado" Gianoli, Jonathan "Bryle" Santos, Ilyas "kasane" Gainullin, Matthew "Whitemon" Filemon, and David "MoonMeander" Tan. MoonMeander will seemingly be moving from a coaching role to active player to account for the absence of Matthew "Ari" Walker, who signed with OG last month.
TSM’s run in Dota 2 saw it become one of the most successful organizations in the region, qualifying for two Internationals, and finishing first in three NA DPC Tours. Their results internationally were less than stellar, but still positioned the squad as one in contention for top-10 finishes.
TSM has seen its impact on the esports space fall massively in the last 18 months. After a disastrous deal with cryptocurrency exchange FTX saw a deal worth over $200 million fall through, TSM was forced to cut back on its spending enormously.
In September 2023, the company departed the LCS after being part of it since the league’s inception. Now, it reportedly leaves NA Dota 2 behind as well. TSM still retains teams in Apex Legends, Fortnite, VALORANT, and CS2.
It’s speculated that TSM will make the same move as fellow suffering NA esports organization EG: Buy into South American Dota. This move would make sense in terms of overheads and brand recognition - the TSM name does still hold some weight in the Americas.
