Does Apex Legends have cross progression?

Are Apex Legends players able to share progress across their platforms?

Apex Legends is one of the biggest competitive games in the Battle Royale genre. It is available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and mobile but does the game support cross progression?

Cross progression typically means that any items or progress that players earn in one version of a game, in this case, Apex, will transfer over to other systems using the same account.

Does Apex support cross progression?

Unfortunately for Apex players, the answer to that question is not really.

As of Nov. 28, 2022, there is no way to transfer your Apex Legends account between different platforms. That means that PC, Xbox, Switch, PlayStation and mobile progress is all segregated.

All items in Apex will not carry over.

PC players can, however, switch their progress over from the Origin version of the game to the Steam version. This is the opposite of Apex's biggest competitors. Both Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and Fortnite support full cross-progression.

Warzone 2 will even support cross-progression with its mobile counterpart. Activision-Blizzard are providing an almost full game experience on mobile.

Warzone 2's mobile experience will share a Battle Pass, Military Rank and weapon progression. This is one area, of very few, where Apex lags behind everyone else.

The only way that Apex players can transfer progress from one system to another at the minute is upgrading from previous generation consoles to current ones.

For example, players who played Apex on PlayStation 4 will be able to bring their progress through to their PlayStation 5. Similarly, Xbox players can do the same going from the Xbox One to the Xbox Series X/S.

But for now, at least, that's the lot in terms of cross-progression in Apex Legends.

How to link Apex accounts on Steam and Origin

Linking Steam and Origin is actually incredibly easy. It will allow players to move all of their items, progression and even statistics over to either version of the game.

Apex Legends is now available on Steam. It has been on Steam since 2020.

Here's what you need to do in order to link the two games:

  • Download Apex Legends on Steam.
  • When you first launch Apex Legends on Steam, a prompt will appear asking you to log in to your Origin account.
  • After logging in, load up the game and you should be set!

Will cross-progression be added to Apex Legends?

If developers Respawn are to be believed then they are working on a solution to have cross-progression be featured in Apex.

Apex Legends is currently in its 15th season. Cross progression has been a huge talking point for a long time. The game released in 2019.

Former Director of Communications at Respawn, Ryan Rigney stated that they expected cross-progression to be available in the game in 2022.

"Cross progression is gnarly as hell," Rigney said in a Reddit AMA. "It's not only that you have to solve the technical challenge of merging existing accounts, but there are also legal and contractual issues to navigate with purchasing on other platforms."

This is now not the case. At the Season 15 launch event, the Respawn development team once again reiterating how difficult the process of implementing cross-progression is.

The development team did not want to commit to a release date for cross-progression in Apex Legends, meaning that it could be an indefinite wait for the feature to come to the game.
