Don’t buy. Rent.

On May 24, Valve gave players the possibility to rent skins in CS2 rather than just opening cases and getting one random skin.

For now, it's only possible to rent skins from one case specifically, but in the future, Valve could expand the option and allow players to rent skins from every case in CS2.

If you want to test this new rent feature in CS2, here's how you do it.

To rent skins in CS2, players must have a Kilowatt case in their inventory or buy one from the Steam Community Market. When players open the Kilowatt case, they'll get the option to rent all the skins inside the case minus the rare special item (knife) for one week. Here's how you do it:

  1. Launch CS2.
  2. Go to Inventory.
  3. Right-click the Kilowatt case and click on "Unlock Container."
  4. Buy a key for $2.50 if you don't own one already.
  5. Click the "Open to Rent" option to rent 17 skins for seven days.

Important factors to consider when renting skins in CS2

Once you rent skins from the Kilowatt case, the case will be considered opened and won't return to your inventory after the rental is over. If you wish to rent them again, you'll need to purchase a new Kilowatt case.

On top of that, bear in mind that you won't be able to customize your rental skins with stickers or name tags, nor sell or trade them on the Steam Community Market.

And, most importantly, remember you can only rent from the Kilowatt case. Don't spend $2,000 on a Cobblestone Souvenir Pack like Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyljev did because you won't get to rent a Dragon Lore.
