How to fix the “Client Requested Disconnect” Error in Overwatch 2

One of the primary reasons for this error is a connection issue. Now this connection issue could be either on the player end or it could be a server-side issue. Here are a few steps to follow through to check if you can solve the problem.

Reboot your console or PC

The first step is to reboot your Console or PC. This usually also involves shutting down / restarting the game which would try two steps at the same time.

Quite often, connection issues might result due to a client-server issue, and restarting your PC is the simplest fix.

Restart your Router

Sometimes, the issue might be due to your router or ISP connection. You can restart your router to try to fix any connection issues.

Any router can run out of memory until a time that the system comes to a complete halt. Restarting the router fixes this and optimizes your router performance. In general, we recommend restarting your router at least once in 24 hours to ensure optimal performance at any given point of time.

Flush your DNS

You can also flush your DNS to establish a connection with the Overwatch 2 servers. Blizzard has a detailed guide on how to do this which we have added below.

  1. While on the desktop, press Windows Key and type CMD.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
  3. Type ipconfig /release in the command prompt and press the Enter/Return key on your keyboard.
  4. Wait a few seconds for a reply that the IP address has been released.
  5. Type ipconfig /renew in the command prompt and press the Enter/Return key on your keyboard.
  6. Wait a few seconds for a reply that the IP address has been re-established.
  7. Type ipconfig /flushdns in the command prompt and press the Enter/Return key on your keyboard.
  8. Close the command prompt and attempt to make a connection.

Wait for the Server to be back

If the above steps do not work, it is most likely a server-side issue. You can check the server status on websites like downdetector.com, but sometimes it takes time to show up there. In such cases, we recommend just waiting it out till Blizzard ships a fix.

You can also contact Blizzard on their contact form to seek a reply if you feel none of the above steps work. They will work with you and provide you with detailed assistance on how to fix the “Client Requested Disconnect” Error in Overwatch 2.
