Danish took a surprise BLGS victory in the EMEA region.

Danish are the first ever EMEA BLGS Champions, winning an intense Regional Finals in nine games. Having qualified by the skin of their teeth in 20th, Danish surprised the region beating out several ALGS Championship qualified teams on their way to taking first place.

They took home the lions share of the $40,000 BLGS Prize Pool, and end their ALGS Year 4 season on a winning note.

Danish grab BLGS win

Danish were not amongst the favourites before the start of the BLGS action. Attention was on the likes of Alliance, FaZe Clan and Aurora all looking in great position to bring it home.

This was compounded by a very slow start from Danish, who didn't pick up their first point until game three. They did so with a huge 12 kill third place, which seemed to inject some serious momentum into Friqz, Mysi and sherbert.

Their final game to close out first place was incredibly well worked. On E-District, the newest map to join the competitive rotation, an incredibly open end zone initially played host to seven teams. Two of the seven teams were not on match point.

One of those teams was NIP, who sat in an incredibly powerful high ground position. Having cleared out the low ground, Danish found themselves in a three way shootout with NIP and Alliance for the win, and Friqz's Mastiff was just enough to clutch up and bring home first place.

EMEA BLGS top five:

  • Danish - 88 (Match Point Winners)
  • Alliance - 106
  • Forbidden - 83
  • AURORA - 73
  • Nephilim - 71

Alliance show why they are EMEA's best ALGS Championship hopes

Alliance have been on top form across the BLGS, even playing a drinking game during the finals of one of the qualifiers. They were the first EMEA team to ever land a major LAN win during the Esports World Cup. Since then they have gone onto establish themselves as a clear leader of the EMEA Region.

They were on fearsome form during the BLGS Regional Finals, dropping a huge 20 kills in game five, and also delivering 15 kills in game two. When Alliance get going, they really get going. The balance between Hakis, Effect and Unlucky seems perfectly tuned.

The BLGS Regional Finals obviously aren't at the same level as the upcoming ALGS Championship, but todays gameplay was a clear reminder who the standout team is in the EMEA region.

However, Alliance have always had some difficulty closing out match point finals, and today was no exception. They stumbled on back to back Worlds Edge games after reaching the threshold, and then got caught out on a difficult rotate across Jurassic on Storm Point. They had the chance to beat Danish to a BLGS win, also finding themselves in an intense end zone.

However, Alliance couldn't navigate the chaos of the final zone without getting too much attention. Sometimes in a final ring, who other teams choose to fight decides who wins. Alliance, hidden behind a wall, just couldn't reset enough to catch Danish by surprise after they eliminated NIP, and had to settle for second today.
