Season 10 of Overwatch 2 reworked and gave new life to Wrecking Ball.
Among the various changes that came to Overwatch 2 Season 10, one of the biggest was Wrecking Ball's rework. The hamster got updates and buffs to the majority of his abilities in the transition from Season 9 to 10. Although he plays the same type of game, that being rolling around and causing havoc, his kit was definitely improved upon in the update. So, let's break down the new Wrecking Ball.
The new and improved Wrecking Ball
The Season 10 of Overwatch 2 brought new life into Wrecking Ball. The seasonal update reworked three out of the five of Wrecking Ball's weapons and abilities. Although the changes to Wrecking Ball are more focused on the abilities than the weapons and ultimate, it's a change nonetheless. The big improvements were targeted at Wrecking Ball's tanking abilities and his main mechanic of swinging around.
In terms of the core rework of Wrecking Ball, there were changes to the Grappling Claw and Adaptive Shields abilities. With regards to the Grappling Claw, the Season 10 Wrecking Ball rework allows you to retract it. This allows for a lot more movement options for Wrecking Ball. Having more control over the distance of the claw allows players to better control momentum and overall movement. So long story short, Wrecking Ball won't (hopefully) be swinging around pointlessly. With the rework, he'll actually hit enemy heroes and cause havoc.
Then there's the change to Adaptive Shields. This is a more team-focused change, as the rework of Wrecking Ball's ability will help him perform his role significantly better. Once activated, Wrecking Ball can transfer a portion of the Adaptive Shields to another teammate. The shield from the ability is considered Overhealth rather than shields themselves. So now with the Season 10 rework, Wrecking Ball can actually protect his teammates and shield them from harm.
The last change to Wrecking Ball is a slight health improvement to his Minefield ultimate. The buff isn't world-shatteringly strong, but a buff is a buff nonetheless.
