The second day of the League of Legends EWC 2024 tournament features two quarter-final matches.

Two teams in these matchups are rather favorites in the community’s eyes. This applies extra risks and, combined with the general unpredictability of esports, may lead to surprising results. The LoL Esports World Cup 2024 tournament allows only two more teams to proceed to the semi-finals. The other two will be eliminated.

Everything about the matches Gen.G Esports vs Top Esports and G2 Esports vs FlyQuest is here.

Live score

Gen.G Esports 0:2 Top Esports (Top Esports is the winner)

Top Esports proved how real the unpredictability of competitive LoL is. Many experts considered Gen.G a favorite in this match, but this opinion has been destroyed starting from game 1. Top Esports played patiently, thoroughly leveling up their champions. The win here looked easy for the Chinese team. The second game did not change the situation. Gen.G struggled with the money and kill race. Top Esports dominated team fights and eventually won the LoL EWC 2024 quarter-final.

"I think [Gen.G] are very strong; they have been in this condition since the MSI. It was very hard to win"

LoL Esports World Cup 2024 G2 vs FLY: Live scores

The match between these teams is scheduled for 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET, July 5.

Live score

G2 Esports 2:1 FlyQuest (G2 Esports is the winner)

FlyQuest had an excellent game 1. They gained the might and smashed G2. The hope for the North American team did not survive for too long, though. Despite having even starts in games 1 and 2, G2 players could eventually position themselves better for the fights and power up their champions more effectively. G2 Esports performed a solid comeback and won the quarter-finals. Their next opponent at the LoL ESW 2024 is Top Esports.

“[I feel] relieved, I think. It was quite a scary series… We were caught off guard in the first game; we were playing quite shaky. FlyQuest showed a lot more than we thought. Even the later games weren’t the kind of games we wanted to play. We are going to try to refresh as much as possible for tomorrow.”

The head to head

The League of Legends teams at the Esports World Cup 2024 are at the top of their regional competition. Therefore, they participate in the International LoL events with a chance to face each other.

Without digging too deep into the past, we can check out how the LoL EWC 2024 quarter-final participants performed at the MSI 2024.

Gen.G Esports vs Top Esports

Gen.G is generally a stronger team, there is little doubt about it. The Koreans won the whole Mid-Season Invitational 2024, and they defeated Top Esports in the upper-brackets semi-final. But that match was unexpectedly intense.

Gen.G won two games, and the Chinese opponents suddenly decided to strike back. Their dream of a reverse sweep was almost tangible — and the community remembers Top Esports for that competitive spirit.

G2 Esports and FlyQuest

These teams did not have a chance to play at the MSI 2024, because… FlyQuest had to start from the Play-In stage, as the 2nd NA seed at the tournament. They were sent to the loser brackets by T1 and eliminated by PSG Talon.

G2 Esports started from the Brackets stage, and they reached the top 4. It feels like the European team is a favorite in this EWC 2024 quarter-final.

After these matches, the League of Legends tournament at the Esports World Cup 2024 will get even more exciting. Stick around on esports.gg for full coverage.
